Gamesley Community Centre will be hosting a new activity for Girls: 'Fluffy Morris Dancing'.
Fluffy morris dancing is a popular energetic recreational formation dance for girls. The Gamesley Vallerettes will be running the session from Gamesley Community Centre for juniors, young girls and women from aged 12 upwards. This is the first in the area and the other nearest group trains in Denton, Manchester. The Gamesley Community Centre Healthy Living Initiative will be funding the group until end of March 2008, to help it get up and running.
It is totally different from male morris dancing who use hankerchiefs, sticks and flowery hats, and dance to a live accordion. Fluffy Morris Dancers use taped music of the trainers choice, some trainers like pop singing music others instrumental the choice is yours as long as the girls can dance to it. Music is played on a variable speed tape recorder, again the speed of the tune depends on the trainers choice. Troupes are made up of various sections and are grouped according to age and ability.
The new session will run from Gamesley Community Centre every Friday night from 7.00 PM onwards. The group provide pumps and dresses etc.
