There are lots of opportunities for you to take up an interest or hobby that will get you out of the house, develop you skills and give you the chance to do something positive.

What you need to know
There are lots of opportunities for you to take up an interest or hobby that will get you out of the house, develop you skills and give you the chance to do something positive.

What you can do

There are loads of things you can do. Just a few examples of these are:

  • Volunteering - you could maybe help to tidy up a local park, or help out with a local scout or brownie group
  • Joining a group - you could join your local history group or help run a local children's football team
  • Taking up a new sport - you could try running, swimming or playing tennis. This is also a great way to help improve your fitness
  • Take up a new hobby - this could be anything from playing music, walking to photography

Leisure centre activities

  • The leisure centres and swimming pools across the Dales often have programmes during the summer holidays.  For more information contact your local leisure centre direct.  You could also try looking at their website at www.derbyshiredales.gov.uk/LeisureCulture but this has not yet been updated for this summer.  They also have details of activities for young people that run regularly.
  • More information on sports activities can be found at www.derbyshiresport.co.uk/clubs

Ofsted registered activities

  • Contact the Children’s Information Service to find out what out of school groups are running over the holidays.  Telephone 01629 585 585 or follow the links from www.childcarelink.gov.uk
  • They will also have details of sports clubs and other activities which have to be Ofsted registered.
